Drivers are the type of software that allow different specific components and hardware of a computer to interact with the installed operating system, in order to be recognized and provide the function for what it has been designed for to the users.
For example, from graphics cards to simple flash drives, or motherboards and web cams, all of this components are in the need of a driver to function properly and be recognized by an operating system as Windows 10 or any other platform.
Without the drivers, specific pieces of hardware would not work at all, and if they do they will probably function in a basic way and not giving all the potential, since the software designed for that is not installed in the form of driver in the OS.
Network, WIFI adapters and hardware related to internet connectivity are not the exception, since such pieces also they their drivers to work properly. So, in the case of having problems, the network adapter driver Windows 10 is the one causing the issue or simply is not installed in any way, bringing some troubles that involve the absence of the proper driver or bad installation.
Checking the network adapter drivers in Windows 10
If there are troubles respecting wired or WIFI internet connectivity in a PC running Windows 10, which do not allow to connect in any way even when the connection is properly configured and sending and receiving data in other devices, the most probable thing is that the issue is caused by drivers.
In details, the network adapter drivers are the ones that allow the computer or device to connect to WIFI or wired connection, authenticating and setting the protocols to receive and send data over the web. If these are not installed or set properly, the device will not connect. Therefore, the best thing to do is checking the network drivers’ status to solve the issue.
To do so, the user can click on Start and then type on the search bar the words “Device Manager”. In this list there is a menu option where it says Network Adapters, along with the name of the actual adapter installed.
Giving a right-click in the network adapter will make appear a menu with different options. Usually, the connection problem can be fixed clicking on the option in the menu “Update driver”. In the case the problem is not fixed, the recommendation is to uninstall the drivers using this same menu and download them from the manufacturer´s webpage, and then reinstall them.
